This began as a part of the companion Double Bass Links page, where this Double Bass Luthier Project was born. It outgrew the original page and now stands on its own. While "luthier" can be used to refer to instrument builders, in this case it is aimed mostly at those who can repair and set up basses. However, some of the members of this list also or exclusively build instruments. The bass links page includes sources of basses, where you will find both retail stores and suppliers as well as artisans who craft double basses.

In July 1998 I began to ask other bassists to contribute names and contact information for luthiers who work on and sell basses, as a resource for others needing such information. The following have been received or found by me so far. Please contribute information to expand this list. Your fellow bassists and I thank you!

Luthiers are often a great source for new and used instruments, as well as repairs. Also note the Double Basses, Bows, and Parts section on the Double Bass Links Page where you will find many other sources, including those where you can purchase a bass that has been set-up.

A MESSAGE TO THOSE LUTHIERS LISTED WITH EMAIL ADDRESSES: CON ARTIST NOTE, 3-2-04: Some a-holes are putting out those dummy eBay style "your account has been cancelled" or "Renew your advertisement/membership..." types that asks you to sign into another page with your "sign in information". The point is to steal user names and passwords. Well, these dummies took a lot of time to build a pretty message to try to collect non-existent information. Responding to their invitation captures whatever name and password entered and sends it to them, and then forwards you to one of my legitimate pages. Just to let you know it's not me-- if you did use a legit name and password, change that account immediately! What a world! 3-2-04
