Hard to imagine, 2 channels and 1000 watts from a small box weighing less than five pounds... no, it's not magic, but it sure makes you wonder. The first words I thought when first handed a Focus were, "You've got to be kidding me!!"
The Acoustic Image Focus integrated amplifier was designed to accurately reproduce the sound of all acoustic and electric instruments using a compact and highly portable electronic system. The heart of the Focus is a powerful Class D switching amplifier that delivers up to 1000 watts of clean, full spectrum output into speaker loads as low as 2 ohms. The Class D amp has a distinct warm sound unlike other solid state amps, more like a tube amp. The Focus is not "voiced" like many electronic instrument amps. Its frequency response is flat. What you will hear is the sound of your instrument - provided, of course, you use a high quality speaker system. The tonal shaping characteristic of the three band EQ preamp is able to help you overcome room acoustics or to subtly shape the sound of the instrument being amplified. The Focus 2R adds a second channel and a versatile digital effects section. However, and in spite of their power, the Focus amps were not designed to play at tonal extremes or with a distorted output.
A parallel effects loop is provided within the Focus to allow the addition of external effects, and it includes a level control. A balanced output, with ground lift switch, allows connection to a mixing board for PA augmentation or recording. A switch is provided to allow dual voltage operation (115/230V) for the travelling musician.
In all ways the Focus is a high fidelity amplifier. Its wide frequency response, low distortion and low noise make it ideal for accurate sonic reinforcement of all instruments. All this performance combined with its small size and portability make it virtually disappear on stage, thereby highlighting the musician and his/her performance rather than an equipment stack.
Despite its reasonable cost, the Focus doesn’t skimp on features. A sophisticated preamp section provides three-band equalization, a selectable notch or high pass filter, effects looping and a pre- or post-eq balanced direct out. A cutting edge power amp section drives loads as low as 2 ohms. Together, these features represent an unparalled combination of finesse, brawn and natural sound in an absurdly light book-sized package.
The Focus is an amplifier for the working musician looking for exceptionally clean, natural sound, with wide frequency response and low noise. Carried in one hand, or in the supplied gig bag, it provides the ultimate in sound reproduction and portability.
Other features of the Focus include parallel effects loops with a return level control, selectable notch or high pass filters for feedback or “boominess” elimination and a balanced direct out with ground lift to allow connection to a mixing board for PA augmentation or recording. A switch for dual voltage operation (115/230V, 50/60 Hz), a detachable power cord and a padded gig bag with shoulder strap make the unit convenient for the traveling musician.
- Two identical channels for any mix of instruments and microphones using 1/4" or XLR inputs
- Six Digital Effects including three reverbs, one delay, one chorus, and one flanger using technology licensed from Alesis; Acoustic Image cherry-picked the best of the bunch and included them in the Series III models
- Separate Digital Effects in/out buttons for each channel
- Separate Effects Loops via 1/4" phone jacks with Return Level Control for each channel
- Stereo Option: Channel 2 button out allows you remove the second channel from this amp, to route it to second amplifier, for stereo use.
- Extended Frequency Range, High Fidelity Sound
- Compact Enclosure (10x9x2.5 inches)
- Light Weight (5 pounds)
- Integrated Preamp and Power Amp
- 1000-Watt "Digital" Power Amplifier (1000w @2 ohms, 800w @4 ohms, 450w @8 ohms)
higher power!
- Input Level Control
- Master Level Control
- Mute Switch
- Three Band EQ:
- Bass Control: Shelving type, ±15 dB @ 60 Hz
- Mid Control: ±15 dB @ 650 kHz
- Treble Control: Shelving type, ±15 dB @ 10 kHz
- Switchable Notch/High Pass Filter
- Notch Filter: -12 dB sweepable from 30 to 700 Hz
Notch Control lets you reduce the volume of a single frequency to help fight a feedback or resonance problem
- High Pass Filter: -12 dB/octave sweepable from 30 to 700 Hz
The High Pass filter lets you reduce the response below a frequency of your choice, to fight the mud on boomy stages and in similar situations
- Combination Input Jack allows the use of a ¼" or XLR input; input impedances are 1 megohm (¼") or 600 ohms (XLR) based on jack chosen, separately buffered
- Optional 48 volt phantom power to XLR input jack
- Effects Loop via 1/4" phone jacks with Return Level Control
- Balanced XLR Line Output with Ground Lift Switch
- PRE- or POST-effects switch XLR output
- AC Power On/Off switch with LED Indicator
- Switchable Dual Voltage Operation (115/230V) (comes with USA Cable; to use in other countries, you can source an IEC-C13 AC Cable, also commonly used for computer power supplies.)
